Mammals born with eyes closed are, in fact, born without a sense of sight. The 'sense' part develops after the eyes first open, and it isn't at all instantaneous.

Steph-After mailing the postcard, I totally had time to re-evaluate, research further and figure this out. It's too late to take it back. I feel silly. (But I usually feel silly.)
